Custom Cover Buttons for Garments and Upholstery
Baocheng supplies custom cover buttons for garment factories, fashion brands, uniform manufacturers, upholstery companies and other B2B customers. A cover button normally consists of a formed metal shell and a matching back component. Fabric, leather or another suitable material is wrapped over the shell and secured by the back, allowing the finished button to match the color, texture and design of the final product.
Our regular cover button diameter range is from 0.5 cm to 2.5 cm. Other diameters, dome heights, shell profiles, back structures and metal specifications can be developed according to drawings or physical samples.

The specified diameter should be clearly defined before production. It may refer to the outside diameter of the bare metal shell or the diameter of the finished fabric covered button. The finished diameter may increase slightly depending on fabric thickness and the covering process.
In addition to diameter, Baocheng can evaluate custom dome height, shell depth, edge shape, metal thickness and back dimensions.
Cover Button Structure
Formed Metal Shell
The front shell determines the visible shape of the finished cover button. Its surface should be smooth and consistent because thin or light-colored fabrics may reveal scratches, dents or irregularities underneath the covering material.
Low-dome, standard-dome and more rounded shell profiles can be evaluated according to the required appearance, button diameter and selected fabric.
Matching Back Component
The back component holds the covering material inside the shell and supports the completed button. Shank-back and other project-specific structures can be evaluated according to the sewing method, installation direction and strength requirements.
Fabric-Locking Area
The internal space between the shell and back must be suitable for the covering material. If the space is too small, thick fabric may not lock correctly. If it is too large, thin fabric may become loose, wrinkled or uneven after assembly.
Baocheng recommends testing the cover button with the actual production fabric before approving mass production.

Cover buttons can use the same fabric as the garment or furniture to create a coordinated appearance. Contrasting colors, textures or patterns can also be used to create a decorative focal point.

Fabric thickness, elasticity, weave density, fraying tendency and surface texture can affect the final covering result. Thick fabric may require a deeper shell or larger diameter, while thin and slippery fabric requires careful control to prevent wrinkles or movement.
Customers are encouraged to provide actual production fabric for sample testing, especially when using velvet, elastic fabric, embroidery, directional patterns, loosely woven material or artificial leather.
Custom Colors, Patterns and Logo Alignment
The visible appearance of a cover button is mainly created by the covering material. Customers can select solid colors, stripes, checks, floral prints, geometric patterns, embroidery, jacquard fabric and other decorative surfaces.
When the fabric includes a logo, letter or directional pattern, Baocheng can evaluate cutting position and pattern orientation. Alignment accuracy depends on the button diameter, logo dimensions, fabric repeat, material stretch and required cutting allowance.
Because larger cover buttons provide more visible surface area, they are generally more suitable for displaying embroidery, logos and complex patterns. Small cover buttons are better suited to solid colors or small repeated patterns.
Metal Materials and Surface Treatments
The metal shell is normally covered by fabric, but the back component or shank may remain partially visible. Depending on the selected material and structure, Baocheng can evaluate natural stainless steel, silver tone, nickel tone, black, gunmetal and other project-specific surface treatments.
Material and surface-treatment selection should consider forming performance, corrosion environment, button weight, magnetic response, sewing method and the intended washing or usage conditions.
JSW20 Patented Ultra-Low Magnetic Permeability Stainless Steel Cover Buttons
Although the metal shell is covered by fabric, the internal metal components can still affect needle-detection results. Conventional iron or steel buttons normally have a clear magnetic response. Ordinary austenitic stainless steel may also become more magnetic after stamping, drawing and other cold-forming operations.
Baocheng’s patented JSW20 ultra-low magnetic permeability stainless steel is developed for applications requiring the finished component to maintain a very low magnetic response after forming. In relevant finished-component testing, relative magnetic permeability values of approximately μr 1.0003 have been achieved. The result applicable to a specific cover button must be confirmed according to its size, structure, manufacturing process and agreed test method.
